For Parents

At YM, we recognize the pivotal role parents play in shaping the experiences of their children. We are dedicated to transforming the Muslim youth experience by creating a space where your kids can connect with mentors who not only guide them but also become lifelong friends.

Our goal is to provide a supportive and enriching environment for your children, where they can build meaningful connections, gain valuable insights, and develop a strong sense of their Muslim identity. If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to your local NeighborNet coordinator. If you’re unsure of who your local leadership is, feel free to contact shura@ymsisters.com for any inquiries, discussions, or support.

Your involvement is crucial in ensuring that your daughter has a positive and fulfilling experience within YM. Together, we can contribute to the growth and well-being of the Muslim youth, fostering a sense of companionship, mentorship, education, and service that aligns with our shared values. Thank you for being an integral part of this transformative journey.

At YM, we believe in the power of empowered women, recognizing that each one is a superwoman in her own right. Our focus is on fostering a sense of sisterhood, creating a safe space for all to openly share thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This commitment to unity is deeply rooted in the teachings of Islam, echoing the words of the Prophet ﷺ who said, “A believer is a mirror to another believer” (narrated by Abu Hurayrah).

A few years ago, a dedicated group of individuals within the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) took a critical look at the state of Islamic engagement in North America. What became apparent was a significant oversight: the youth, the future torchbearers of Islam, were feeling disconnected from its essence. And so, Young Muslims (YM) was born. As the youth division of ICNA, YM was specifically established to address this crucial gap.

Our purpose is to seek the pleasure of Allah ﷻ by educating and developing the youth, instilling in them a desire to live their lives for the sake of Allah and to positively influence the lives of those around them.

Central to YM is the NeighborNet, aptly named as it represents a network of neighbors. This gathering serves as a halaqah, where sisters come together to discuss challenges, seek answers through Islam, and relish in a supportive Muslim environment. Each NeighborNet functions as a dynamic youth group, striving to build a solid understanding of Islamic principles among its members and encouraging the practical application of these principles in their lives. By fostering bonds of sisterhood, YM provides a comfortable space for the youth to connect with Islam and its teachings.

In YM, we emphasize a balance between knowledge, activism, and enjoyment. Our members collaboratively strive to make a meaningful impact in their communities, contributing to local mosque initiatives, supporting shelters, and fundraising for causes abroad. Join us on this transformative journey where sisterhood flourishes, knowledge is pursued, and together, we work towards positive change.
